The first Slovenia Open was organized in 2004: 176 players from 21 countries competed in Laško between April 28 th and May 2 nd . The event was held by the Ljubljana Region Paraplegics Society, the organization led by Gorazd Vecko and Gregor Gračner.
France turned out to be the most successful country with 25 medals: 10 golds, 11 silvers and 4 bronzes. The Slovenian Andreja Dolinar excelled with two golds – in singles and in teams alongside the Paralympic champion Mateja Pintar Pustovrh, who took bronze in singles there. With new organizational experience the tournament was becoming more and more relevant and at home in Laško each year; only as an exception it was hosted in Kranjska Gora in 2007. In 2008 the number of participating countries exceeded 30 for the
first time, and in 2015 it rose to 40.
